ATTENTION:  IMPORTANT ACT and Work Keys testing information

Dear Parents/Guardians of Juniors,

On Tuesday, March 3, all juniors will take the ACT Plus Writing test.  Juniors should report to school at the normal starting time of 7:55 a.m.  We anticipate they will finish and be dismissed by 12:45 p.m.

On Wednesday, March 4, all juniors will take the Work Keys Assessment System.  They should again report at the normal starting time of 7:55 a.m. and we anticipate they will be finished and dismissed by 12:30 p.m.  The Work Keys assessment focus is on applied math, locating information, and reading for information.

To provide a proper and suitable testing environment, freshmen, sophomore, and senior students will not report to school either day.  Buses will run on their regular schedule for juniors needing transportation.  Lunch will also be available for juniors who need to ride the bus.

 Other information -

1. Cell phones are not allowed and cannot be used at any time.  They must be turned off and left in a locker.  They may not be accessed during breaks.
2. Only approved calculators will be allowed.
3. Snacks will be provided during the break.
4. Juniors should arrive by 7:45 and report to their testing room. Once testing begins they may not be admitted.
5. Juniors should bring two sharpened #2 pencils with them each day.

As always, encourage your son or daughter to do their best.  These testing results will provide required information to future educational institutions.  Please reference all questions to New Holstein High School office.

Sincerely,

New Holstein High School is working hard to bring a life altering program called ‘Challenge Day’ to its students. Challenge Day is a non-profit program designed to help tear down walls of separation and encourages acceptance, support, and respect among students. Youths who face emotional challenges among peers, their home, or their community learn to cope with the world and to support one another.  Challenge Day has served over 1 million youth and has been recognized with a two-day feature on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

The program opens participants’ eyes to the experiences and perspectives of others.  Challenge Day increases self-esteem, transforms peer pressures into peer support, and strengthens inclusiveness.  In turn this creates understanding, empathy, and hope. Participants learn to truly connect with others and build a healthier community.

Students often arrive to Challenge Day closed off or fearful but leave with open hearts, a desire to create positive change, and a new view of those around them.  New and sincere connections are made between participants. Ultimately, Challenge Day is about creating connection and building a positive community.

Seeing is believing.  Below are three short videos to help you better understand the Challenge Day program.
